After the success of 300, director Zach Snyder turns to another comic adaptation with WATCHMEN. The smart series from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons centres on a group of masked heroes who find their talents banned in a fictional America. Someone begins to take down the former heroes one by one, and a strange character named Rorschach begins to investigate.

50 out of 100 WATCH THIS

Don't know what some of the other reviewers are on about. I haven't read the comic and am usually very skeptical about comic book adaptions (I just got sick of them, didn't you?). But this one was worth watching. Set in an alternate reality where superheroes do exist, having fallen from their height they are now shuned by the public and many have retired or tried to blend in to society. It is the early 70's and the US and Russia are on the brink of nuclear war. Someone is killing old superh

15 out of 100 Very Very Poor
Dave from Dublin, 11 Aug 2009
One of the worst movies i have seen in a long time. It was mind meltingly boring. Even the action scenes were shocking. I was looking forward to watching this but was left dissappointed. If your a fan of the comic book, stay away from this. If your looking to pass the time then maybe rent it but you were warned.

10 out of 100 Wish I'd read the reviews before renting this one!
laura from Dublin, 22 Sep 2009
The costumes and set are quite good. Other than that though this one is fairly drab, with boring characters apart from "the comedian" which is well acted. Had heard this movie was critically acclaimed but I really can't understand why. Also heard it was a darker batman type film, but it really doesn't touch on the entertainment value of the recent batman movies. Not much fun to be had with this one!

This movie is a total waste. If you even enjoyed the graphic novel avoid this movie like the plaque.

35 out of 100 A phenomenal effort by Snyder
Fergal from Dublin, 14 Aug 2009
If you haven't read the graphic novel then this is probably to be avoided. I have read it and I enjoyed this movie although I thought the acting was very poor with the exception of Jackie Earle Haley who plays far and away the book and the film's most interesting character - Rorschach. In fact I think he is one of the most interesting characters ever to come to screen and I think Snyder would have been better spending more time with this character in restrospect. The style of the movie is terrif

15 out of 100 Watchman
Seymour from Longford, 22 Aug 2009
There's a blue man walking around naked a lot, Its a lot like Smurf porn I imagine. There’s a lot of plot and all the superheroes look very camp. Had I been a baddy in their universe I would not have taken them very seriously.

40 out of 100 Exceptional achievement - not for everyone
Ciaran from Dublin, 17 Jan 2010
In making The Watchmen into a motion Picture, Snyder has avoided the temptation to make it more palatable for mainstream audiences. Hence the very mixed reviews. I watched the 3.5 hour 'Ultimate' cut and yes, it was hugely long but it needed to be to stay true to the source material. This it did very well. Yes, some part stray (most notably the finale) but the whole 'feel' is captiured incredibly well. and that's the thing, some people will just repel that whole way of story telling. As ot

40 out of 100 My kind of movie
Eamon from Meath, 29 Oct 2009
After watching this I can understand why there are such mixed reviews for this movie. I read the book years ago and it changed the way that I viewed the whole genre of the Graphic Novel. This movie hasn't changed the way I watch films but, to me anyway, it lived up to the hype. It is not quite as good as The Dark Knight but it is certainly up there with the best of the superhero movies.
