Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a young working-class woman named Evey who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man known only as 'V'. Profoundly complex, V is at once literary, flamboyant, tender and intellectual, a man dedicated to freeing his fellow citizens from those who have terrorized them into compliance... The Matrix Trilogy writing/directing team of Larry & And Wachowski adapt Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel into a thought-provoking blockbuster.

40 out of 100 PoliticalThriller/Comedy/Romance make up your mind
Tim from Cork, 25 Oct 2007
Interesting to see a post apocalyptic film set in near future Britain and quite entertaining. But, it could have been much better and I think it was the mixing of genres that let it down. political/thriller/comedy/action/romance/satire. Scrap some of the action and all of the romance and they would have made a gem. A bit of a shock to see the Wachowskis (of Matrix fame) wrote the screenplay when the credits rolled but after a second i thoughte..."Of course!"

40 out of 100 V for very interesting...
Gerard from Cork, 03 Aug 2007
Good idea behind the film, facist state & one of its victims out for revenge. Like Batman, only pegged as a terrorist. Well worth watching, just to see how they use media spin to cover up his attacks. Lot of parallels with the US.

People expecting Matrix like action will be disappointed; nice subject though...

40 out of 100 A Niche Film
Sean from Dublin, 13 Sep 2007
This film will always get mixed reviews, because it appeals to a niche audience most. Some will hate it, others will love it. For myself, I loved the film, has a very nice graphical style to it, and interesting plot ideas/twists.

I really enjoyed this movie ... I watched it twice over the weekend and it is 2hrs long ... Just get it out and forget what you've heard about it ... You will then understand what i'm talking about ...

40 out of 100 Brilliant stuff!
Dean & Steffi from Meath, 19 Dec 2007
A really good film and definitely worth watching, with excellent performances from John Hurt, Hugo Weaving (immense despite being hidden the entire movie behind a mask!), Natalie Portman (Shows she can actually act after all those Starwars flicks), Stephen Rea (Always solid performance) and a great role by Stephen Fry. It's well worth a view and portrays an interesting alternative, dystopic view of Future England. Gripping stuff.

35 out of 100 Far superior to the Matrix
Brian from Dublin, 30 Nov 2008
The Matrix was pretty aweseome if you like Playstation, movies like Fast and the Furious and mags like FHM. Not really grown-up viewing. V for V has an interesting political message (OK not incredibly subtle!) but it is well-executed and rings true and coherent. Some acting is required and Natalie Portman is good. Worth getting.
