After the death of his father King George V (Michael Gambon) and the scandalous abdication of King Edward VIII (Guy Pearce), Bertie (Colin Firth) who has suffered from a debilitating speech impediment all his life, is suddenly crowned King George VI of England. With his country on the brink of war and in desperate need of a leader, his wife, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), the future Queen Mother, arranges for her husband to see an eccentric speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). After a rough start, the two delve into an unorthodox course of treatment and eventually form an unbreakable bond. With the support of Logue, his family, his government and Winston Churchill (Timothy Spall), the King will overcome his stammer and deliver a radio-address that inspires his people and unites them in battle. Based on the true story of King George VI, The King's Speech follows the Royal Monarch's quest to find his voice.

50 out of 100 It Really Deserved The Awards
Ciarán from Dublin, 15 May 2011
This film is truly magnificent. I can't find an aspect of it that I don't like. It's touching, and highly emotional in parts, but still manages, with the help of Geoffrey Rush's great performance as Lionel Logue, to supply a few laughs. The acting was incredible - Colin Firth at his absolute best. If you only enjoy fast-paced films, then you most likely won't like The King's Speech, but if you appreciate the beauty of films powered by the characters' personalities and the development thereof, you will love this incredible piece of film-making.

45 out of 100 Please do yourself a favour
Lee from Kerry, 11 Jun 2011
Watch this movie. It was everything you could wish for. The production levels were exceptional and Colin Firth should have been given two oscars. Geoffrey Rush should also have had 2. I knew it was going to be good but thought it might not be entertaining or easy watching. Well. The time flew and I want to see it all over again.

Ben from Mayo, 27 May 2011
This movie (that I'm sure that you have heard about) is a GREAT movie. It won all of them awards for a reason. It's an enjoyable movie with laughs (thanks to Geoffrey Rush, mostly), sorrowful moments and amazing settings. I watched with my family and they all really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone!
