overhyped but watchable
Graham from Dublin, 17 Feb 2010
cinematically excellent, with real claustophobic atmosphere in every shot, but frankly could not relate to any of the actors and the story line became weaker and more proposterous as the film progressed... I just cannot put this film in the same category as Deer Hunter, Apocalyse Now, or even Platoon... probably missed some of its impact by watching it on a small screen as this would have more impact in cinema, but a film should have msubstance enough to be a classic on any screen... recommended

As expected
Jess from Sligo, 02 Jul 2011
Well made, good acting skills! Plenty of tension, ie Ooh watch out there's a bomb.. But they're bomb disposal people in Iraq. So should surely be tense. However, it was lazy filmaking inasmuch as the war itself is ignored, and the iraqi people are never more than an annoyance or a downright threat to the heroic macho GI's. The worst the americans ever do is brawl with each other. Pretty much what you'd expect from hollywood. Looks good, says nothing.

A real BLAST
Keith from Clare, 12 Nov 2010
This gives a real look into the eyes of a bomb disposal soldier and his support crew doing a tour of duty....its a simple as that....its graphic portrayal of the war torn middle east provides all the drama and plot one needs in a concise and well shot war flick....No barrels of gasoline redening the sky like an A-Team explosion here....this is the real deal and thats why it took the oscar...

Hurt Locker.
Alan from Dublin, 04 Aug 2010
Really good war movie with a difference. This focuses on the peace keeping aspect after the main conflict has finished, showing us the work of a bomb disposal squad. Found it hard to engage with the lead character as we are never given much of a back story to explain his gung ho attitude to his job. That said, its a good watch and well worth a rental.

The Hurt Locker
Joy from Dublin, 30 May 2010
This is a 'must see' for all those who were in favour of George Bush's and Tony Blair's invasion of Afganistan. It illustrates the futility of trying to impose change on a different culture and the terrible consequences for both the invaders and the invaded and the insurmountable problems left in its wake.

Good - but that's all
Dave from Galway, 20 May 2010
Like most Best Picture winners, it's hard to watch this without having big expectations. Inevitably 'The Hurt Locker' doesn't live up to them. It is, however, a decent, watchable, well-acted study of three soldiers going into meltdown on duty, and is worth a watch.
