The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009)

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves. Based on the trilogy of books by Stieg Larsson, to be followed by 'THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE'.

40 out of 100 Tatoo.
Alan from Dublin, 24 Jul 2011
Not haven't read the book i wasn't sure if I'd like this but I was surprised at just how good it was. A solid story that will keep you hooked till the end. If you don't fancy subtitles , there's an english dubbed version instead.

10 out of 100 Terribly depressing
Roseanne from Dublin, 21 Sep 2011
My wife has read all three books and maintains that the books are far better than the film adaptation. I hadn't read the books and probably won't either. Having watched this film I honestly felt like ending it all as the final credits rolled. Terribly depressing with not redeeming elements what so ever. The characters are two dimensional, the plot is sketchy and the ending is leaning towards the up surd. My recommendation, stick to the books and avoid the films and I have this on good authority.

50 out of 100 What a brilliant and surprising movie!
Jeannine from Kerry, 11 Feb 2011
I was absolutly surprised by this film. It is a brilliant story from beginning till end. And there are 2 more films to come. Really look forward to see them. This is so different from any Hollywood movie. It is so much more realistic and the violence in the film is needed and filmed in a none shocking or disgusting way. This film keeps you in a trance before the T.V. Absolutely one of the best films I have ever seen!

35 out of 100 Great - better than expected
Greg from Donegal, 28 Jan 2011
I ordered this as love anything Swedish (I hadn't read the book) and it delivers on amazing Swedish landscapes and sets. A good thriller, complex and very dark and violent... but has you guessing to the end. Some good performances. No idea why they feel to make a Hollywood remake of what is already a successful and good film. I guess the yanks can't cope with reading subtitles - too many brain cells involved?

35 out of 100 Good adaptation of book
Eimear from Dublin, 18 Sep 2011
This is a very watchable adaptation of the first book in the millenium trilogy. The 'girl with the dragon tattoo' isnt a particularly likeable character, which is carried through from the book. It is better than the book in some ways as it has removed some of the superfluous information, and side stories, and kept it simple and interesting. Some violent scenes which are difficult to watch.

40 out of 100 Read the books......
Damian from Dublin, 27 Jan 2011
I had read the book (now reading no. 2) so was gaggin to see the film. Did not disappoint. Kinda scary how Lisbeth looks so like how you imagine her when reading the book. Watch it in Swedish, really glad they did it before Hollywood, nice tribute to Mr Larsson RIP. Interesting what they removed e.g. Mikael and Berger and their physical affair. Be a sheep and read the books, they are great.
