A murder in the Louvre and clues in Da Vinci paintings lead to the discovery of a religious mystery protected by a secret society for two thousand years; a mystery which, if unravelled, could shake the very foundations of Christianity... As could the inevitable realisation that Religion is absurdly fictious and childish. Kinda like this movie.

50 out of 100 Code 10
Pamela from Galway, 13 Mar 2007
Many people seem to be put off watching this film because they're sick hearing about it. It is actually thoroughly engrossing and works very well as a film. Don't let all the history 'decoding' put you off - everything is explained in an 'Idiot's Guide' kind of way. One can enjoy it without getting sucked into the biblical theory/debate/revelations. Worth renting.

10 out of 100 Dissappointed
David from Dublin, 25 Apr 2007
I read the book and loved the escapism and 'what if' elements of the plot. I found Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou to be unconvincing and generally unmoved by the alleged scale of the tasks ahead of them. Wooden...

Had heard a lot of negative talk about it but was pleasantly surprised. Obviously couldn't be "as good as the book" but better than what all the moaners are saying about it.

5 out of 100 Don't Bother
Caroline from Laois, 12 May 2008
Himself read the book and found it good so we got this. ROT. Himself even agreed, don't bother with the 'film' if you've read the book and loved it. As for me, didn't read the book and went and had a bath during this as I found it to be complete and utter rubbish. As a film it didn't even hold my interest, I know I'd have thrown the book away after 5 pages and I wanted to throw this out after ten minutes... When bath was done they were still running around chased by shadows. RUBBISH. Don't rent.

25 out of 100 Not a patch on the book
Patrick from Tipperary, 12 Jul 2007
I was very disapointed by this film having been hooked into the book and reading it all in a day. The book paints a fantastic picture of the story and provides far greater visuals than the film. Hanks seems out of place, the pace of the film is not great and the ending leaves a lot to be desired. Choose one or the other, read the book or rent the film to avoid disapointment.

15 out of 100 Absurd Plot
Ian from Wicklow, 04 Jan 2008
I cannot say why I decided to watch this movie. Perhaps to see why there was so much pre-release opposition to the film. In the end I found the movie to be a little farcical, full of absurd plot twists, excessively anti-Christian and not to mention the numerous historical inaccuracies. I could not take it seriously and found that at supposedly serious moments I was laughing out loud. Do not waste your time.

25 out of 100 terrible ending
wendy from Cavan, 24 Jul 2008
i hate all religion and this film just confirmed to me why.the part that mentions the power the church must have over the world just about sums it up.as a historical mystery goes the film was entertaining there but the last 30-45 minutes were so ridiculous they weren't even needed, what the point of them was i don't know. it was an evening's viewing, that's all.positive start but disappointing ending.
