Clive and Elsa are a pair of brilliant scientists whose cutting-edge experiments in genetic engineering make them superstars in their field. As devoted to their careers as they are to one another, they start conducting unauthorized experiments with new animal species that show great promise. Drunk with their god-like powers, they introduce human DNA into one of their creations, producing a creature that is greater than the sum of its parts: a rapidly developing animal/human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. While this female creature inspires maternal feelings in Elsa, she evokes something far-from-paternal in Clive, something that poses a threat to them all. Then, when this seemingly perfect organism makes a final, shocking metamorphosis, it is mankind itself that is threatened.

45 out of 100 Critic on Splice
Milia from Waterford, 16 Dec 2010
Reflecting a Frankstein theme, but more relevant to the present regarding genetic manipulation and ethics that are an unspearable issue. Very well performed and spliced together film. Suspense without too much gore and a humane feeling prevails with a philosophical undertone which is a nice change. Worth watching as a science fiction thriller/fantasy with an underlying truth of the complexities, possible consequences and accountability of our intervention into nature.

35 out of 100 Worth Watching!

At first I wondered what the hell Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley were doing in a film like this, but it turned out to be an unusual and engaging watch...quite bizarre, but as another reviewer pointed out, it kept in touch with an underlying humanity to make this a cut above other such films, rather than having it appear as an out and out monster/ disaster flick.

30 out of 100 Slick enough, but what was the point?
Brock from Limerick, 06 May 2011
Like a good few others here reviewing this, I too was hoping for some proper deabte within the film on the ethics of gene splicing and cloning but there is a not a jot of that, just a thriller sci-fi that I felt didn't know itself what it was about.

5 out of 100 The worst...ever!
Mark from Wexford, 10 May 2011
Inter species sex with the worst sub-standard, Eastenders, melodramatic plotline you can imagine. Horrendous. Might be of interest to budding screenwriters - how not to do it.

15 out of 100 Don't bother...
Rachel from Dublin, 16 Aug 2011
Not great movie at all. I do like Adrian Brody as an actor but this was not his finest hour (having sex with his creation / adopted daughter) - most odd. would not recommend

Not scary if that's what you're expecting, but very interesting and unusual. Well worth watching.
