After the disappearance of his estranged wife (Cate Blanchett), Quoyle's (Kevin Spacey) fortunes begin to change when his long lost aunt (Judi Dench) convinces him and his daughter to move to their ancestral home in Newfoundland. There, a place where life is as rough as the weather and secrets are as vast as the ocean, Quoyle lands a job as a reporter for the local paper. Now, a past is emerging, a mystery is unfolding and life is awakening. From the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by E. Annie Proulx.

15 out of 100 Disappointing
Eimear from Dublin, 07 Aug 2011
With the line up of actors in this film (Kevin Spacey, Cate Blanchet, Pete Postlethwaite...), you would expect it to be fantastic. The result however was disappointing. The characters are fairly unbelievable from the start, the movie plods along and doesn't captivate. There is a hint of the supernatural throughout the film, which doesn't interest me, but may interest others. Although I'm not familiar with the Newfoundland accent, the accents done by the actors are very variable.
