"Robin Hood" chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self–preservation, from his service in King Richard‘s army against the French. Upon Richard‘s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Oscar–winner Cate Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff. With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.

25 out of 100 Where was he supposed to be from?
Edward from Dublin, 27 Sep 2010
I have no idea where Maximus thought he was supposed to come from in this film. He alternates between Ireland, Wales, Northern England, Essex and modern-day London throughout the film. Puts the suspension-of-disbelief under a certain amount of strain. All-in-all though, it was enjoyable. Blanchett was reliable too, though you do wonder why they found it so difficult to find decent quality English actors to fill the leading roles.

5 out of 100 Walt Disney Presents......
Brian from Louth, 23 Jan 2011
The worst thing about this film is how it is not at all the dark and brooding film it was portrayed as. it's light and fluffy and no more realistic than Kevin Costner's effort. Russel crowe and the rest of the cast are all ok but that doesn't raise this film past the fact that Robin Hood will definitely be remade again and this is by no means the definitive edition.

10 out of 100 Very poor fare
Paul from Laois, 11 Dec 2010
Deadly boring, terrible accents. Blanchett and Crowe fail to save this mess. I thought it might be another Gladiator perhaps, boy was I wrong! I resorted to fast forward button to see if it would pick up towards the end. I should not have bothered. Unless you want another turkey for Xmas I would give this a miss.

20 out of 100 Not half as good as I expected it to be
Sean from Wicklow, 14 Dec 2010
Convoluted plot took some of the joy out of his film. It lacked the humour and charm of Prince of Thieves. Russell Crowe is a great actor, but he didn't play the role as well as Kevin Costner did. Worth a watch...just about.

40 out of 100 In the Hood.
Alan from Dublin, 28 Feb 2011
This is a more serious attempt at portraying Hood than Costners film. It's darker and more realistic and I didn't think Crowe's accent was all that bad. Visually impressive as most Ridley Scott movies are, worth a rental.
