Roman Polanski's remarkable, Oscar and Palme D'Or winning film 'The Pianist' tells the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody). Managing to survive in the Krakow ghetto while the vast majority of the Jewish population have been transported to concentration camps, Szpilman leads a lonely, dangerous existence sheltering in abandoned houses. Directed by a film artist who lived through the times it depicts, Polanski's matter-of-fact storytelling style makes this one of the most haunting of WW2-themed films and it features an indelible central performance by the Academy Award's choice of Best Actor in 2003, Adrien Brody.

A real thought provoking story I defy annyone not to be moved by this up there with Schindlers list and worthy of all the awards that was showered upon it.

Well made & well done! Very sad story (but hey! what's not sad about Jewish extermination by Nazis?) but strongly recommended. Polanski at his best!!!

40 out of 100 Excellent
laura from Dublin, 14 Oct 2008
An engrossing film. Different to some films on the subject, it really follows the life of an ordinary person living in a terrible time, not a hero, but someone we can readily identify with. Well worth watching.

Adrien Brody is amazing. Brilliant film, but depressing, but inspiring, when you think of what people went through during WWII. Definitely one to see
