In Israel, the handsome and charming Avner (Eric Bana) is deeply in love with his pregnant wife. Domestic bliss is short-lived; immediately following the "Black September" attack in Munich's Olympic village, Avner, the son of an Israeli hero, is summoned by his country's famed secret service agency, the Mossad, to carry out violent retaliations against those Palestinian terrorists allegedly behind the massacre. Commanded from afar by prickly government agent Ephraim (the inimitable Geoffrey Rush), Avner and his team of handpicked men - pugnacious South African Steve (Daniel Craig), goofy ex-toy maker Robert (Matthieu Kassovitz), morally conflicted Carl (Ciaran Hinds) and terse professional Hans (Hanns Zischler) - must deal with some shady, nefarious international figures as they track down their Palestinian prey. Their mission takes them from the villas of Rome to a seedy hotel in Cyprus and with each successful kill, Avner's iron will begins to dissolve as guilt and doubt begin to take hold of his conscience...

40 out of 100 Good, but felt one-sided
John from Donegal, 02 May 2008
A very good history lesson into what happened at the '72 olympics. Very well done. My only complaint was that it was so one-sided, we only really got the Jewish perspective, the Palestinians were somewhat demonised, which made the film seem more of a fictional thriller then something based largely on fact. Well worth seeing, the acting is excellent.

10 out of 100 Boring
rachel from Meath, 13 Nov 2008
I felf this movie was made only for those who have an interest in the Middle East. It did nothing to help me understand what was or is happening there. There was nothing in it to even view as a good movie!

35 out of 100 Munich
Henning from Dublin, 13 Jul 2010
Epic telling of revenge assasinations by fictional Israelis for the Munich Olympics terror attacks. The scope is very broad and the narrative unfolds only slowly, but the time is recreated very well. In the end the justifications get harder with every hit and guilt and paranoia take over.

25 out of 100 OK
John from Mayo, 04 Jan 2008
This film is moderately interesting but gets bogged down with too many details and I agree that it is over long. Only worth getting if you are really interested in it.

30 out of 100 Munich

Medium absorbing. An insight into recent history. Good period atmosphere. Perhaps 15 mins too long: I didn't watch until the end...
