No Rules. After a deadly security breach in the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force (JIATF), the FBI ask for help from the Miami authorities who are not part of the compromised group. This assignment goes to Detectives James 'Sonny' Crockett (Farrell) and Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs (Foxx). Going undercover as offshore boat racers and outlaw smugglers Sonny Burnett and Rico Cooper, they take on the narcotrafficking network of the mysterious Archangel de Jesus Montoya-Londono and his Cuban Chinese banker Isabella (Gong Li) where the intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge. Identity and fabrication become blurred, cop and player become one... Writer/director Michael Mann returns to the iconic 1980s series which he co-created. While the white Ferrari Testarossa, Jan Hammer synthesizer music and fashion excess may have been left behind with original duo Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, Colin Farrell and Mann regular Jamie Foxx are more than a match in the new bigger, louder and just as thrilling big screen outing for Crockett and Tubbs!

25 out of 100 Miami Vice
Ned from Wicklow, 05 Feb 2007
Slick and pacy, this film rattles along as our heroes (without a rolled-up jacket sleeve in sight) go after the drug dealing baddies. In a generally enjoyable romp, Foxx and Farrell are very good and the baddies are very bad without becoming cartoonish. However, the resolution of the plotline involving Farrell and the love interest (a key figure in the criminal enterprise) is so daft it really spoils the film. An enjoyable but hollow experience - perfect Friday night "veg out" material.

10 out of 100 Rubbish
seamus from Dublin, 10 Apr 2007
Michael Mann, Jamie Fox, Colin Farrell it had all the hallmarks of an enjoyable thriller. it actually started quite well until the love interest came into the fold and then it completely lost the run of itself.. full of cliche's and to be hosnest boring dialogue. this needed to fast paced because it was never going to have the storyline to keep you interested and it just wasn't. 2/10 and i'm being generous at that

10 out of 100 Brutal plot
Mark from Dublin, 10 Apr 2007
Colin and Jamie sold down the river in a mass of fast boats, planes, cars, gun battles, drugs and women. I had high hopes for this about the only redeeming feature would be the music that accompanies the movie. In a nutshell I am glad I didn't shell out to go the pictures for this but still easy entertainment with a wafer thin plot.

15 out of 100 Miami Vice
Liam from Cork, 16 Apr 2007
Great cast and locations are wasted on an unengaging storyline, wafer thin characters and totally lacklustre action sequences. Get the original TV series instead, cheesier, cheaper and loads more fun.

30 out of 100 Slick.
Ciaran from Dublin, 27 Feb 2007
Gritty and low intensity are the watchwords here. Some action near the start and the end encompass a slick and stylised story that is not without flaws. It's not fantastic but is a break from the norm and for that has to be respected.

0 out of 10 A dud
Daniel from Dublin, 31 May 2007
Michael Mann has delivered some wonderful films but he's completely off cue with this dud. As to be expected, there are some great scenes in it but Colin Farrell ruins it, as he does with everything he's in. Easily the most overrated actor around. The scenes between himself and Gong Li were so lacking in chemistry they were laughably bad.

20 out of 100 superficial steadicam dizzy movie
Diarmaid from Wicklow, 15 Jan 2008
fairly basic plotline, which I think tries a little too much for style with very little in the way of substance in the way of action or any light-heartedness. Takes itself quite seriously which in a cop movie is not necessary, certainly not a reboot of an 80s cop series. Dont feel concerned enough for the protaganists to really understand the jeopardy that the plotline supposedly puts them in. but sure it all looks good
