Based on actual events, this black action-thriller stars Nicholas Cage as international arms smuggler Uri Orlov with humble beginnings as a Soviet immigrant in 1970s Brooklyn, to his involvement in selling off the stockpiled arsenal of post-Cold War Ukraine to, among other top clients, the sadistic African dictator André Baptiste, Sr...

20 out of 100 Not Critical Enough of the Arms Trade
Donal from Donegal, 13 Dec 2007
Nicholas Cage was as wooden as ever. The actor who played the despot in Sierra Leone was charming. I was disappointed. The movie does suceed in provoking debate on the illegal arms trade, but tended to glorify the role of the illegal arms trader (the character played by Cage) who is also not portrayed as a bad guy; this was a pity as it could have been much more powerful. The extras include a voice over from the director which is insightful. Filmed on location in South Africa and New York

50 out of 100 Lord Of War
H from Cork, 19 Oct 2008
Superb performance from cage. Subtle and yet very powerfull. The movie is beautifully filmed, provocative and will give people a nudge to wake up and pay attention. Who are the people that are really screwing the planet. The last statement of the film Re: the top five countries profiteering from the pain and misery of thousands of innocents tells you all you need to know. As long as there is money to be made it doesn't matter who has to suffer to keep the big cats fat.

Mark from Dublin, 25 Jan 2008
Its cheers easy entertainment with I suppose a softly soflty approach to provoking some soul searching with some black humour thrown in now and again Cage is good in this.

Very entertaining insight into an interesting topic. Documentary drama and thriller all rolled into one. Well worth a watch.

40 out of 100 Guns, Guns and more Guns
Deirdre from Dublin, 12 Jul 2007
Somewhat of a muddle of a movie, apparently based on some true stories. Becoming a arms dealer because it makes economic sense is a logical move but when things start going wrong he finds it difficult to get away.

30 out of 100 Worth Watching
Les from Dublin, 20 Apr 2008
A good action film, this one; but with a very disturbing undercurrent. The disturbing element is wondering how close it is to the truth about the obscenity of the arms trade. Worth watching though.

Ciara from Cork, 09 Apr 2008
I really liked this film, Cage is great, though he is not portrayed as the bad guy he represents, a bit loveable. You gotta watch the home shopping channel bit, its such a pisstake!
