I had been looking forward to watching this as had heard a lot of good things about the book and subsequent film. In all honesty it was okay but I thought the plot had some significant holes in it and granted the child actors were okay it was just odinary in my opinion.

We heard good things about this film when it was first released(my initial doubts surrounding vampire movies proved way off the mark).
Great performances from the two leading characters, especially being kids with a compelling and absorbing storyline supported by some glorious shots.
Well worthy of the plaudits it has received to date.
One minor "complaint" we have is that the version we got was that the subtitles were for hard of hearing(eg dog barking, car screeching etc) only as oppo

Not in any way a typical vampire horror movie. This plays on a more realistic development, where a bullied school child befriends a neighbouring girl, who just so happens to be immortal and lives off human blood. Their relationship is quite tender and touching as it evolves. The backdrop of winter in scandanavia also adds to the atmosphere. Very good.

After reading that Empire magazine had named this their movie of the year when it was released, I was comfortable in the knowledge that I was going to enjoy this film. But it was crap in my opinion.
The only thing original was the setting. It felt like a whole load of nothing happened for ages and then it only picked up in the last half hour.
Won't be recommending this one.

If you like your vampire movies with plenty of gore and action, well this isn't for you. Slow thoughtful character driven movie, that just happens to have a vampire as one of the characters. Won't be everyones cup of tea.

Having read the reviews both here and in rotton tomatoes I was looking forward to watching this film.
However the only thing I was left with at the end was a feeling of gratitude that I wasnt born anywhere in the bleakness and sterility of scandanavia.
The photography portrays well the travails and mind numbing boredom of downtown sweden.
However I felt the film itself left an awful lot to be desired.
Both of us watching it waited for something to happen ,and perhaps some deeper explanation

How can a film with a vampire as a central character by treated with such care and compassion? This is a quiet slow paced masterpiece. It's about the relationship between two children who are outsiders but come to rely on one another. One happens top be a vampire but that is almost an incidental to a film which deals with loneliness and being misunderstood in a truly exceptional way. Just don't expect Buffy.

This may be the worst movie I have ever seen. There is no real plot. It is more a series of poorly acted sketches. There is no develpoment of the characters, and the visual effects are amateur. In summary, it is like a project by Transition Year students. Don't waste your money.

Mysterious, dark and spooky - this movie is still haunting me since I saw it several weeks ago.. It's about so much more than a blood-sucking vampire: that special childhood friendship, bullying at school, life dilemmas that leave you guessing what is going to happen next.. It may not be for everyone's taste (personally I don't like violence on screen) but will be one of most memorable movies you'll see.

You know the way vampire films are all rubbish despite everyone's best efforts to make them good? You know the way the whole vampire schtick is so full of untapped potential you just know there's gotta be a film out there somewhere that portrays love, relationships, and being an unholy killer with such depth and feeling that it actually helps define you personally?
I think I'll move to Sweden.

Wasn't sure what to expect with this film - anything that even vaguely approaches the horror genre isn't usually my cup of tea - but this is in a league of its own. The two lead actors are both brilliant (the same was also true of Somerstown which I had watched a few days before - another film I can highly recommend) and the story is totally compelling. I particularly liked the way the film included a number of 'facts' about vampires - or rather things that you would know from other films such a

I read the book and wondered how this would fair out on the big screen as some of the story is quite hardhitting but it did turn out well. They have taken some of the darker undertones of the book out of this film but it still manages to keep the atmosphere dark and brooding. well worth a watch

Turned it off in 5 minutes, it was awful. I could not turn the commentry off. I don't mind watching a movie with Subtitles but the person in the background going "Bold White Letters....." "Snow fades from screen" was really annoying me I could not watch the whole movie like that. Again, I tried for about another 5 minutes to turn this off but could not do it. Turn it off.

Best film I've seen for a few years, it's like 2 films: One is a heart warming, bittersweet love story between 2 (apparently) 12 years-olds, the other is a well thought out, modern vampire tale. You get settled into the love story, then you have a vampire moment which, in the way it's handled, is all the more shocking. Great performances from the 2 leads. This one's going straight into my top ten. Oh, and the soundtrack's fantastic too.

A little chilly...
Philip
from
Dublin,

This might well be a modern classic. A lonely, bullied boy with disturbingly violent fantasies meets a lonely little girl who has moved in next door to him. She is 12 - but, as she dryly notes, has been 12 for a very long time. She is in fact a vampire. And they become friends. And very bloody things ensue. The film is sometimes astonishingly beautiful, chilly, violent and very moving. The two child actors are incredibly good, especially the girl. Unmissable.

For all lovers of Vamp flicks this is one you cannot miss. Brooding and atmospheric in the extreme, the sights, sounds and feelings of this movie wont leave you for a while. Two convincing child actors are what the whole show depends on and they don't dissapoint in any way. Hugely recommended and be sure to catch this before the (I presume) neutered Hollywood version appears next year.
