The cinematic flair and narrative surprises that marked Park Chan-Wook's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy continue in this third and concluding part of the director's thematically-linked trilogy of revenge. Intense and inventive, the film follows the progress of beautiful, impassive Lee Geum-ja (Lee Young-Ae) after she's released from prison having served 13 years for the kidnap and murder of a young boy. Once on the outside, she hooks up with some former cellmates, a preacher who thinks she's an angel, the detective who originally arrested her and the daughter she gave up for adoption, gathering around her all the people needed to carry out an elaborate plan of revenge. Her target is kindergarten teacher Mr. Baek (Oldboy star Choi Min-Sik), while her weapon(s)-of-choice are unexpected and highly personal. This is striking and ghoulishly entertaining stuff, a highwire act poised between horror, tragedy, comedy and exploitation. With the aid of Oldboy Director of Photography Jeong Joeng-Hun, who employs some neat tricks and brings a vibrant beauty to the dark proceedings, Park ensures there's never a dull moment.

30 out of 100 Not as good as Oldboy
Paul from Dublin, 24 Apr 2007
Revisiting many of the same themes (such as captivity and revenge) that were covered in the brilliant Oldboy; Wook's follow-up is somewhat of a disappointment, but still worth a view.

45 out of 100 a fine end to a Vengeance Trilogy
john from Meath, 03 Jul 2007
Not as violent, intense or dark as the preceeding chapters in the trilogy, but still it is a beautifully made film. As with the others, it drives home the message with sledgehammer blows, and some scenes are truly gut wrenching. however, despite the onscreen carnage, rest assured, the message carries on, Vengeance is futile. Definitely watch it if you are a fan of challenging Asian cinema.

35 out of 100 Not for faint hearted!
Anna from Dublin, 14 Nov 2007
I would recommend this movie howver not for faint hearted. Great story line,, great pictures, story well told. After years spent in prison "Lady Vengeance" is looking for the man in her past and to reconcile with a child of her past. Law taken in the own hands - justice is as always disputable. Has to be watched

30 out of 100 Hmmmm...not sure
Ciaran from Dublin, 17 May 2007
Oldboy was good....odd, but good. This is similar in vein but wasn't as effective for me. A woman is imprisoned wrongly and, after serving her time, serves up justice to those who originally set her up. As is usual in the Asian movies of this ilk, there are odd scenes and some nasty scenes too! I'm sure fans of the genre will love it though.
