Julie Powell is 30–years–old, living in a rundown apartment in Queens and working at a soul–sucking secretarial job that‘s going nowhere. She needs something to break the monotony of her life and thus she invents a deranged assignment. She will take her mother‘s dog–eared copy of Julia Child‘s 1961 classic ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking‘, and she will cook all 524 recipes. In the span of one year. At first she thinks it will be easy. But as she moves from the simple Potage Parmentier (potato soup) into the more complicated realm of aspics and crepes, she realizes there‘s more to Mastering the Art of French Cooking than meets the eye. With Julia‘s stern warble always in her ear, Julie haunts the local butcher, buying kidneys and sweetbreads. She sends her husband on late–night runs for yet more butter and rarely serves dinner before midnight. She discovers how to mould the perfect Orange Bavarian, the trick to extracting marrow from bone, and the intense pleasure of eating liver. And somewhere along the line she realizes she has turned her kitchen into a miracle of creation and cuisine. She has eclipsed her life‘s ordinariness through spectacular humour, hysteria, and perseverance.

15 out of 100 Okay
Elaine from Galway, 21 Sep 2010
This was okay...watchable at best....it was interesting enough...i was not blown away..and i like girly movies and cooking...it was not gripping or overly indepth...meryl streep gives a solid performance..amy adams was her usual annoying yet strangely likeable sort of self.....a good one if you are stuck for something to watch..it won't bore you.....

25 out of 100 Very unlikeable characters
Ailis from Dublin, 15 Jan 2011
The bits with Meryl Streep were the most interesting, but even she can't save this somewhat pointless movie. The characters are all the more detestable when you consider they are based on real people! I think this was another trite Nora Ephron offering. I don't know why I even gave it a chance.

25 out of 100 Disappointing
John from Kerry, 05 May 2010
Wife wanted to see this (we are both fans of Meryl Streep), I was doubtful. Very weak storyline. Streep was wonderful but there was not enough of her character in the film. I didn't watch the whole film, wife finished it but was unable to rave about it.

35 out of 100 Light and airy, an enjoyable film
Eamon from Meath, 19 Mar 2010
My wife was looking forward to this one a lot more than I was, but I have to admit that i really liked this film. To some degree it is like two seperate films, neither of which is strong enough in itself, brought together to make one strong offering.

5 out of 100 Dissapointing,
margaret from Kilkenny, 03 Dec 2010
Being a Meryl Streep fan i was expecting this to be worth a watch, but it was extremely disappointing, dont know anything about the woman she was portraying so i found it boring and would not recommend it , unless you want help to go asleep.

15 out of 100 Allright but slow
Amanda from Louth, 27 May 2010
Even though I did enjoy most of the movie, it did drag a bit on with nothing happening in parts and I felt like there wasn't enough going on in the movie and it was nothing like what I expected and probably won't watch it ever again.
