Inglourious Basterds begins in German-occupied France, where Shoshanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own...

35 out of 100 Irreverent but enjoyable
freddie from Dublin, 16 Feb 2010
If 10 is the highest score, I have given this film a 7. This is not a film to be taken seriously and if you can tale it with a grain of salt, the violence and historical content, can be put to one side and carry on with the humour with which I believe it was intended. It has a very disposable attitude to life and makes a mockery of convention. For someone who does not like violence, I could take this without offence. Beautifully redicilous and a fair reflection of its Irreverent Title. Knowing

20 out of 100 Wow and yuk all at once
Eugene from Kerry, 04 Aug 2010
Is this movie really based on a true story??? If it is, it illustrates the huge change in warfare we have today, image releasing a bunch of cold blooded homicidal maniacs to reek havoc in a war zone. I suppose, if the concept of mind and heart was secondary to sheer terror of complete war it might happen. I just could help thinking about the reverse rolls; the enemy sends to England or the United States a group such as these Inglorious Bastards to raise holly hell. This is a little shocking,

40 out of 100 Very Enjoyable
James from Wexford, 16 Jan 2010
Not what I was expecting from a taratino film. But this is what makes the film unique. Very enjoyable from start to finish with some comical moments. Brad pitt delivers as always, but its the "newcomers" that steal the show particulary the french lady cinema owner and the SS officer. The film has many tense moments which keep you at the end of your seat. My only quibble is the ending, which was a bit ott, but hey! what do ya expect-Its a taratino film!

45 out of 100 Return to form for Tarantino
Richard from Dublin, 11 Jan 2010
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's a bit brutal and gory in parts but that's what you expect from the man. Brad Pitt was very funny putting on an Italian accent, but the star of the show is most definitely Christoph Waltz as the SS Colonel. Absolutely brilliant character. Some memorable scenes including the Bar fiasco and the colonel's first interrogation of the French farmer. Highly recommended.

10 out of 100 Try Hard with a Vengeance
martha from Waterford, 10 Nov 2010
I admit, I might have had high expectations. I thought it would be haphazardly funny, maybe haphazardly violent. The only thing I failed to predict was it's predictability. It's like some sort of badly disguised comic book parodying war films and war stereotypes. I'm not even sure it did it self consciously. The only thing I enjoyed was the fact that every character in the thing was a tragic idiot. I really didn't give a ... what happened to any of them. This is also the film that finally
