There are heroes... There are superheroes... And then there's... Hancock. Will Smith stars as Hancock - a edgy, conflicted, sarcastic, and misunderstood guy whose well-intentioned heroics, might get the job done and save countless lives, but always seem to leave jaw-dropping damage in their wake. The public has finally had enough - as grateful as they are to have their local hero, the good citizens of Los Angeles are wondering what they ever did to deserve this guy. Hancock isn't the kind of man who cares what other people think - until the day that he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all.

5 out of 100 Totally pointless
Frank from Galway, 19 Jan 2009
This film seeemed to be totally pointless to me. Will Smith is a great actor and he manages to carry this film much further than it deserves. the storyline is uneventful , predictable and a bit pointless. This movie seemed as if it was introducing us to this new superhero and setting the scene for a number of sequels but they forgot to make it a movie worth watching in its self so i'd expect we'll not be seeing much of Hancock in the future. They should really have put more effort in with the st

15 out of 100 So much of a let down
Myles from Louth, 30 Jan 2009
This film tried so much and achieved so little. Early on it had huge potential but the introduction of "the twist" was the beginning of the end for this film. Early humour was replaced by ridiculous plot line and the film lost all entertainment value. Will Smith never really lets you down in this kind of film and truly is the action hero master. Nothing else in this film works. Avoid it unless you are a female who will enjoy looking at Will for two hours regardless of the movie.

10 out of 100 Hancock
William from Dublin, 15 Feb 2009
The forst 25min of this movie is a waste of time, then the twist cut in and the movie could have been saved except they kept breaking the rules they already set out making for a confusing watch mash of special effects. This xould have been really good with a bit of trimming from the start and more thought to revealing of the plot twist and keeping to the ground rules of that twist. Ultimately the dénouement was nothing of the sort. Wil Smith must do better next time.

25 out of 100 Alternative Superhero
Niamh from Dublin, 22 Jan 2009
Starts off well with Will Smith well cast as Hancock, a man with unexplainable superpowers who actually causes more damage then good when trying to take out bad guys. Enter Jason Bateman who (also well cast) tries to help Hancock and hone and PR him into a bonafide Superhero. From halfway it goes off the boil as it becomes clear why Hancock is the way he is and Charlize Theron is just average. Nice idea but runs out of steam. Kids loved it though. Worth a bowl of popcorn and a family viewing on

35 out of 100 An interesting idea not done before
Stuart from Dublin, 05 Jun 2009
What made Hancock watchable for me was the idea of a superhero trying to redeem himself. There hasnt been any films I know of where that was the single focus point of a hero movie was to try and better himself. Its interesting to see how or even if Hancock will try to do this in the film. The end wasnt predictabe and it had its own inventive type of ending.I felt it was worth renting after having seen it, but it wasnt a film I would want to watch often.
