40 out of 100 Slow start, but dramatic end
John from Donegal, 13 Feb 2009
5 interconnected stories of Italians living with organised crime. This film started very slowly, with lots of seemingly unconnected scenes, it took me a good 40 minutes to start making sense of it all. But it was worth the wait as the film progresses we get to see how all the characters are interconnected. Very realistic, and frightening view of the lives of the residents of Italy's slums are controlled by the Mafia. Although set in Italy, this could easily be about any inner city.

25 out of 100 Hoped for better
Thomas from Limerick, 28 Aug 2009
Almost feel let down a bit by this, as I had hoped it would be better - it's shot in a near docu drama style, with interconecting tales of mafia corruption interacting on the lives of southern Italy's inhabitants - both mafia, wannabe gangsters ( probably the best segments) , and innocents. It's long, (you need to pay full attention!) and somewhat convoluted. Don't think or expect something like 'The Wire' or Godfather 2 because it's not. Worthy, but dull.

10 out of 100 A lot of effort to watch
laura from Dublin, 28 Apr 2009
Very realistic looking portrayal of Gomorrah in operation in poor parts of Naples and how young people get sucked into the violence and corruption. It is slow moving with lots of characters and is shot in a very dark light which makes it difficult to engage with the characters. Personally, although it is an interesting film, I didn't find it worth the effort it takes to watch and wouldn't recommend.

50 out of 100 masterful gangster flick
Perry from Leitrim, 23 Sep 2009
A completely engrossing gangster movie that almost comes across like a documentary. If you like complex Altmanesque films with criss-crossing story lines, complex and contradictory characters and some terrific set-pieces this is for you. Really enjoyed at the cinema and looking forward to seeing it again on DVD. Hopefully it will stand up to repeated viewing.

45 out of 100 Worth a little patience
Brian from Louth, 22 Jun 2009
Goodfellas this aint... There is no voiceover giving us easy access to the story, there are no explanations or backstories. This is just a slow-moving overlapping film of the Comorra and inner-city Naples. It is confusing at times as the film cuts almost randomly between stories, but it is so well done that after a while (30/45 mins) I was glued to it.

40 out of 100 Gomorrah
jerry from Cork, 14 Apr 2011
A gritty and depressing look at Mafia life in modern day Naples, Brando would be eaten alive on these streets.
