This searing examination of the Enron accounting scandal reveals the psychology of greed and corporate corruption that facilitated the company's rise to power and also its fall. When Enron went bankrupt in 2001, the principals walked away millionaires--but later faced legal proceedings and jail sentences. Meanwhile, many employees and investors were left with nothing, not even their retirement savings. Shedding light on the new economy of the 1990s when predictions and book-cooking flourished without actual profits, the film shows how it was not Enron alone but a network of bankers, traders, and accountants who turned a blind eye to the company's clearly suspicious numbers. CEO Ken Lay and top dogs Jeff Skilling and Andy Fastow give candid interviews that illustrate their skill at deflecting hard questions and egotistically boasting about the company's success. In one of the company's cold and calculated moves - which caused the California power outages, and lead to the ousting of governor Gray Davis - Enron employees are shown laughing at forest fires.

40 out of 100 Fascinating
David from Dublin, 28 Apr 2007
Very entertaining and frightening in some ways. These guys were getting away with all sorts of strokes. Imagine being able to switch off electricity to millions of people at the flick of a switch so as to drive up the price.

35 out of 100 Documental type...interesting
Robert from Kildare, 13 Nov 2007
Got this out just after reading the book. It's interesting to see the real footage of these "Executives" squirm as they try make up for their dishonesty and arrogance. The book goes into excellent detail about the whole story of Enron but the interviews with the authors of the book in this film, as well as the News coverage clips at the time, really gives you a better idea of what made this $38bln bankrupcy possible in the first place...greed, lies, arrogance & refusing to accept responsability.

35 out of 100 How to lose money and still get rich.
John from Donegal, 13 Sep 2007
The Enron scandal was all over the papers a few years ago, so I was looking forward to seeing this. I found it both astonishing (that they got away with it for so long) and tragic (to see the real victims coping with the aftermath). It was very entertaining, well written and presented. Though it doesn't go into the aftermath enough for my liking, and dwelled too much on the dollar value of everything. All in all, well worth a look for any budding Embezzler out there.

45 out of 100 Corporate scandal
Ian from Dublin, 16 Jun 2007
A fascinating insight into a huge corporate scandal, run by greedy, manipulative and essentially criminal businessmen. The viewer must remain on thier toes for the documentaries duration,as it goes along way to explaining this intirguing tale. Stay with it however, you wont believe the cheek of these "guys"!

25 out of 100 pretty boring
wendy from Cavan, 26 Apr 2008
i found this pretty boring.most of it was lost on me and just went straight over my head because i'm not someone who understands the fine workings of the financial world.the overall picture i got was just another typical story of greedy, corrupt, already stinking rich people walking all over poor people so they can make themselves even richer.commiting crimes and getting away with it because surprise, surprise the bush family are yet again linked to another scandal.it's basically average.

30 out of 100 Documentary film a study of Business Scandal
mary from Limerick, 05 May 2012
Documentary film a study of one of the largest business scandals in American history. The film examines the 2001 collapse of the Enron Corporation, which resulted in criminal trials for several of the company's top executives; it also shows the involvement of the Enron traders in the California electricity crisis. The film features interviews with McLean and Elkind, as well as former Enron executives and employees, stock analysts, reporters and the former Governor of California Gray Davis.

45 out of 100 Dey Do Ron,really dey do.
Anthony from Dublin, 17 Aug 2007
Yes, they do it in America too,but of course the scale is soooooo much bigger. This is an interesting view of the collapse of Enron as it tells you how they managed to get so big that they could collapse in style. Naturally we have all the usual elements here, workers jobs gone, workers pension schemes destroyed, directors with expensive lawyers driving to court in limousines and getting jail sentences that I would serve for a 400 million payoff. A facinating documentary.
