Live Free or Die Hard is the ultimate summer action ride. In a season overflowing with CGI Fantasy, live Free or Die Hard gets real - with real action, real humor and a relatively everyman hero: John McClane. On the July 4th holiday, an attack on the vulnerable United States infrastructure begins to shut down the entire nation. The mysterious figure behind the scheme has figured out every modern angle - but he never figured on an old-school "analog" fly in the "digital" ointment. Bruce Willis is John McClane. No mask. No cape. No problem.

Disposable entertainment - not very plausible!

35 out of 100 Die Hard 4
Martin from Kerry, 08 Nov 2007
I was surpried by this, I did not have high expectations going in but Bruce being John McClane made this a very enjoyable movie. There is some good action (some very silly action also but don't complain as you know what to expect) and the actors and characters are surprisingly good. The main bad guy is a bit weak though but overall this is two good hours. If I had a complaint, these movies should be over 18 like the first one and enough with Computer effects already.

35 out of 100 Great popcorn
Neil from Dublin, 16 Nov 2007
Fantastically overtop movie that makes Transformers look believable. Big bangs, big crashes, big stunts it's got the lot. Don't even bother thinking about the plot holes, the overacting or anythig else. Turn off your brain sit back and enjoy. Even though you don't get to see Bruce's famous vest it's still a good watch.

30 out of 100 Worth Watching
Stuart from Dublin, 13 May 2008
This Die Hard is quite different in its own way from the others as it deals with a lot of hi tech appliances which the film is based around, computer vunrability and how the electronic world can be seriously endangered if the saboteurs have the knowledge to acess computers. Some would say another Die Hard? How? If the story is credible and the actor has a similar quality in past D.Hs why not? Its got even more madness/action than any other D.H and humour. Its not spectacular but worth seeing

45 out of 100 ONCE AGAIN MCCLAIN DELIVERS
Maria from Waterford, 05 Mar 2008
TO BE HONEST ONLY PUT THIS MOVIE IN MY RENTAL QUEUE AS AN AFTER THOUGHT. WASN'T EXPECTING MUCH BUT REALLY, REALLY, ENJOYED IT. ACTION PACKED FROM START TO FINISH. PLENTY OF BULLETS, EXPLOSIONS, SPECIAL EFFECTS AND OF COURSE THE OBLIGATORY WITTY ONE LINERS. SOME OF THE EFFECTS WERE OTT AND ONE OR TWO WERE JUST SO OBVIOUSLY COMPUTER ENHANCED. BUT HEY MCCLAIN KICKED ASS! ENJOYED IT SO MUCH I MOST PROBABLY WILL RENT IT AGAIN.

10 out of 100 V poor - One too many
Brian from Dublin, 13 Nov 2007
This movie had a lot to live up to and failed across the scorecard. The baddies are now French (at least Hollywood left the Arabs alone this time) - they'll be Iranian soon given a decent timelag. There is a nasty misogynistic "revenge of the white 40-yr old" undertone - see Bruce whacking girl in face with keyboard. And, of course, in the end, Bruce kills the baddie and presumably the franchise. Not a bad result.

20 out of 100 Suspend your disbelief.
Ciaran from Dublin, 29 Dec 2007
OK, you don't only need to suspend your disbelief with Die Hard 4, you need to strap it to a chair of explosives and drop it down a lift shaft in the Nakatomi Building! Bruce Willis returns as John McLaine for no good reason and gives a tired and bored performance and I am sure even he raised his eyebrows when he saw what the aged McLaine would do on a jet fighter later in the movie. Yippe-ki-yay muffled f***er indeed. Do yourself a favour and rent the original instead.
