 Cinderella Man

James J. Braddock (Russell Crowe), dubbed 'Cinderella Man', was a once-promising light heavyweight for whom a string of losses in the ring and a broken right hand became synonymous with the Great Crash. With one good hand, Braddock was forced to labour on the docks of Hoboken, while only his manager (Paul Giamatti) still believed in him, finding fights for Braddock to help support his wife (Renee Zellweger)and children. One of the sport's oddest couples, the diminutive, loquacious manager and the burly quiet boxer start to stage an impossible comeback. In the span of less than twelve months Braddock gets his shot at heavyweight champion Max Baer (Craig Bierko), renowned for having allegedly killed two men in the ring. As a 10-1 underdog, Braddock carries the hopes and dreams of the desperate Depression-era working class on his shoulders...

I didn't know what to expect from this film. I'm not really into boxing, or the recession in the States during the 1930's... but wow what a great story! and a true one at that. Believable acting from Crowe and Zellweger, and a real feeling of suspense and drama as the film moved quickly through the life of the Cinderella Man James Braddock. I felt like Googling before the end of the film to see how it would end! (I didn't though!)

Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger portrayed the life of J. Braddock very well. Moving film with realistic insight on the Boxing profession and also the depression of the 1920's. I liked this film despite not being a fan of boxing.

Amazing true life story of a has been boxer who gets another shot. If you've read the book you'll enjoy it all the more but even without it you'll love this film. There's more to the film than the boxing scenes, its a great insight into depression era america and the bravery and integrity of the people despite their hardships. Giamatti is great and crowe plays braddock very well.

This was a great movie one of the best I have seen in a while. My husband loved it too. It was a human interest story and there was great drama and fighting (for the men). I didn't know the story (true story) so you could imagine it all ending badly. Triumphant story in a terrible time in US history (the Great Depression) This is a movie I would buy and watch again!

Really brillant...really enjoyed this movie...gave good insight to the recession in the US and boxing and its based on a true story...Russell Crowe and Renee were really really brillant in it...I give it 9 out of 10 because although it is well worth a watch there was something missing from it...still well worth a watch though
