From Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee, comes an epic American love story, Brokeback Mountain; the winner of the Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, winner of four Golden Globes and winner of three Oscars (Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Score for Gustavo Santaolalla and Best Adapted Screenplay for Diana Ossana & Larry McMutry)! The film is based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx, adapted by Diana Ossana and the great Larry McMurtry (scribe and author of The Last Picture Show). Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection; one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love

40 out of 100 Brokeback Mountain.
Robert from Kildare, 20 Aug 2007
An excellent insight into the crisis of consience that was to destroy two young men's lives in the backward and repressed 60's southern America! Some very strong and brave acting by the two leading actors. Overall a very enjoyable and poignant movie. Well worth renting if you are interested in a thought provoking and transparent insight into the two main characters torment in their world of surpressed feelings. Rent it today!

30 out of 100 Forget the hype, view with an open mind.
Karen from Donegal, 10 Apr 2007
A nice twist on the whole 'forbidden love' angle is almost ruined due to the lack of pace in this 21st century cowboy movie. However, it was nice to see the old gay theme being addressed without the usual campness and silly inuendoes. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall are eminently watchable and the cinematography is great. Once you get past the hype you will find a beautifully crafted movie thats just a wee bit too long and drawn out, but well worth a watching.

40 out of 100 Brokeback Mountain
Michelle from Galway, 04 Mar 2007
Although I thought this movie was a bit drawn out. Having said that, I still enjoyed it. It was a very moving story of forbidden love which makes it a very good 'CHIC FLICK'.

40 out of 100 Deliberate
Ciaran from Dublin, 22 May 2007
A slow paced, deliberate look at the relationship between two men. Beautiful scenery sets the backdrop for the story and the two leads do good jobs. Approach with an open mind and you will see a very good, if slow paced, character driven drama.

5 out of 100 the worst film i think that i have ever seen
Eugene from Kerry, 23 Jul 2007
this has to be one of the worst films that i have ever seen. the plot is tedious, monotonous, overly long and most of all uninteresting. nothing really happens in this film for twenty bloody years. this film represents the one and only time that i got so bored with it that i actually fell asleep while trying to keep interested in it. girls seem to like it, they love the "story". this film is about two blokes who go into the mountains every year to kiss and cuddle, that's it. avoid at all costs.

20 out of 100 poignant and thought provoking
maurice from Waterford, 22 Feb 2009
Sad tale of forbidden love between two cowboys in outback Southern America in the 60s. The tension, awkwardness and unspoken chemistry that envelops over the years between these two men is the strength of the movie as are the great scenic shots. Heath is beautiful and sadly at his best ever. Despite the length and slow pace i found the movie thought provoking and it left a lasting impression. maurice's wife.

50 out of 100 Beautiful story about love and intolerance
Lynne from Dublin, 19 Aug 2010
This movie was robbed of the Oscar for Best Picture! tells the sad story of a relationship that cannot exist because of societal stigma and intolerance. makes the point that homosexuality is not limited to "certain types of people", that anyone can be homosexual, even cowboys who are thought of as "rugged and masculine". set amidst the beautiful Northern American backdrop
