Possibly the most influential American film of the 1980's Lynch's bizarre erotic mystery spawned a whole raft of imitations with its portrayal of the dark underside of American small-town life. Critics and audiences responded to Lynch's original and startling images of sex and violence and made the film a box-office smash. Blue Velvet is renowned for creating, in Dennis Hopper's Frank, one of the greatest screen villains of all time.

40 out of 100 Classic Dave

Another gem from the David Lynch back catalogue. You expect odd and weird from Mr Lynch and this is no exception. However it is not as off the walls as Mulholland Drive and Inside Empire and Kyle McLachlan once again turns in a great performance

40 out of 100 'Ears a treat.
Barry from Dublin, 24 Jul 2007
Excellent stuff, particulalry from Mr Hopper, who is simply terrifying in a role that has been copied and lampooned many times since. Also surprisingly accessible for those that might be put off by Lynch's more recent work.

this is a very weird film as all films made by David Lynch. However the story & acting are superb and even though it looks a bit dated it still makes for great cinema.

20 out of 100 OK
Tim from Carlow, 15 Dec 2008
It was probably more a good film of its time, but not so much now. Its watchable, buit I wouldn't watch it again myself. Acting was quite good, apart from Laura Dern.

I wasn't blown away by this film, nor did I dislike it. Its ok and watchable but I don't get what all the fuss is about.
