In a small Tennessee town, two unlikely souls are about to be lured together at the sticky crossroads between rage and love. Found lying on the side of the road, beaten and nearly dead, is Rae (Christina Ricci), a 22 year old who has developed a reputation around town for having an insatiable "itch" for sex. Her rescuer is Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson), an ex-blues guitarist who has grown used to lifes relentless strains of trouble and sorrow. Desperate for a change himself, Lazarus holds Rae prisoner, and sets out to "cure" her of her wicked ways. But to get to the deep, dark bottom of Rae's mystery, Lazarus will first have to face the demons that reside in both their hearts, especially when Raes one true love Ronnie (Justin Timberlake), a Guardsman who was supposed to be headed for Iraq, comes looking for her. Against its Southern gothic background, Black Snake Moan unfolds in raw, revealing and ultimately transcendent shades of blue.

40 out of 100 Original
Ciaran from Dublin, 01 Oct 2007
With an excellent score, a broken Jackson finds a broken Ricci outside his house and is determined to fix her of her wicked ways. The poster would suggest this is an exploitation movie but it is far from it. Excellent performances from the two leads gives us a satisfying story all round. Not for everyone, but then, what is? Recommended.

35 out of 100 Dont judge a movie by its name...
Michael from Dublin, 31 Oct 2007
At first my opinion on the human race and the American way of life was shattered... and then due to some brilliant acting and a heart warming script my opinion slowly began to change. My hope in mankind and what we have become slowly warmed as I continued to watch this movie... I ended up enjoying the movie and would recommend it.

40 out of 100 Powerful performances
Mark from Dublin, 07 Nov 2007
Big Sam and Ricci carry this movie Timberlake is practically a bit part in this plot between the two main characters. It is a bit dark and a lot of people will not like it but hey thats life and I enjoyed the movie.

45 out of 100 Such an unexpected surprise
Simon from Leitrim, 29 Nov 2007
Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci play a storm in this dark Southern tale. Jackson manages a previously unsurpassed dept of character and Ricci had me transfixed with her sultry role. The story intertwines through themes of bondage and abuse but managed to leave me with a pleasant taste, away from the despair it often touches on. I couldn’t recommend this movie enough, you will not regret renting it.

45 out of 100 Refreshingly original
Roslyn from Dublin, 18 Jan 2008
A surprisingly aft collaberation between two fine leads creating a sexually tense and imaginative drama. A spurned lover and distraught nympho both in dire need of a saviour meander between fantasy and the gritty realities of the deep South. Samuel L Jackson learnt to play the guitar specifically for this role and his blues singing voice is more than convincing. A refreshing change and energetic storyline which I would recommend highly.

45 out of 100 NO Moans here
Tony from Wicklow, 21 Nov 2007
Absolute barnstormer of a tale, really tapping into the pulse of the deep south blue grass music, pulsating, sexy dirty and dark - this is a brilliant story of one man teetering along the edge of redeption while flirting with damnation the whole time - never leaving us sure if he's the hero he wants to be.
