Beautiful but bland.

There's no denying the work effort that has gone into creating this CGI motion picture and it sure does look good. I can only imagine how much better it would look in 3D. So there's plenty of style but I feel the letdown is the story itself. The characters are uninvolved with a script that lacks imagination. Beowulf essentially has to knock off three opponents in turn and, although there is plenty of action, it all lacks excitement. 'The Polar Express' had heart, Beowulf does not.

Beowulf

Starts off a little slow but quite enjoyable overall. CGI effects put an interesting slant on it, the characteristics of the surprisingly good cast still shines through though. I think the darkness of the tale has affected the other reviews - they should probably stick to the happily ever after chick flicks.

Im not so sure about this. The idea was great but would have worked better if everything was real instead of CGI. The CGI in this is nothing compared to 300

Unwatchable

We could not watch this film for more than 30 mins. Dialogue was stiff and there was absolutely no engagement with the characters. It is severely hindered, rather then helped by being in CGI. It may have worked better in conventional form. It attempts to portray an epic tale and fails miserably, as the characters are wooden and two-dimensional.

So dull...
Anne Marie from Wicklow, 30 Mar 2008
All the actors are glossed through the miracle of animation into a uniform sterile prettiness. It is all dragged out for far too long, the accents are risible, and all Beowulf does is keep roaring his own name like a mantra. Don't rush to rent this.

neither good or too bad

it was hard to follow the story, wasn't really attracting viewers to do so. some characters stories are so abrubt that you ask too many question and by the time movie is finished you don't have a half of the questions answered. From the original story point of view, no close even and just lets say Hollywood perspective regardless origin.
Didn't like it.

Wonderfully unexpected

I had no idea what this movie was about, didn't know it was all CGI. In a way it helped me experience it with open eyes. It brings us a new way of experiencing special effects, without seperating the real actors with CGI, just make it all CGI! The movie looks so real, that you are completely immersed in it. I watched it on a portable player, and still loved it. I will probably buy it now on DVD. If you are curious, rent it!

Beowulf
Paul from Cork, 30 Aug 2008
Enjoyable yarn, computer animated featuring a six-packed Ray Winstone and a nipple-less Angelina Jolie! Based on a Danish fairy-tale, the story centres on legendary warrior Beowulf and his rise to king after he rids the current incumbent of a curse. Years later, after being fanciful about the truth, he must face the consequences of his actions.
