"Avatar" is the story of an ex–Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. More than ten years in the making, "Avatar" marks Cameron‘s return to feature directing since helming 1997‘s "Titanic," the highest grossing film of all time and winner of eleven Oscars including Best Picture. WETA Digital, renowned for its work in "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" and "King Kong," will incorporate new intuitive CGI technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters.

15 out of 100 Average

I was probably one of the 29 people in the world who refused to see Avatar. I watched it anyway, just to "see" what it was about. I acknowledge that the special effects are stunning, but to be honest, I was NEVER convinced once that could be real. That giant Smurf could exist on an alien planet. To me Buzz Lightyear generates and renders more humane feeling than the whole Na'avi (whatever!) tribe. It was a big let down. The ending - as well as the rest of the story - is so predictable. I can't wait to miss Avatar 2 and 3...

40 out of 100 Not just a simple sci-fi (fairy) tale
Liam from Kilkenny, 10 Dec 2010
The story can be seen as equivalent to present day US aggression meted out to peoples around the world, the more different the more aggression. The disregard for (and even belligerent attitude to) 'foreign' religious faith lends further credence to this compasrison. Equally, it can be seen as analgous to the destruction of native Americans (so called indians) and the dress, hairstyles and other similarities are quite striking here. The special effects are brilliant though I didn't see it in 3

50 out of 100 Amazing film - it merits all the hype!
Patrick from Wicklow, 16 Dec 2010
I didn't expect to be too keen on this film a) because it was so hyped and b) I didn't like the look of those blue animated creatures. I hadn't realised that it was only part animation. This is one of the best films ever - can't understand how anyone could give it a negative review - good storyline, FANTASTIC special effects (so sorry I didn't see it in 3D). Same league as LOTR and that's high praise.

45 out of 100 Wow amazing special effects
Keith from Carlow, 26 May 2010
I watched this movie on home cinema with surround sound. I thought the special effects were amazing. The storyline is as far fetched as you can get (avatar v human) but you soon come to realise that this film is a cracker. From start to finish, the graphics, the effects, the attention to detail is flawless!! Sit back and be entertained!!

20 out of 100 Hype?!
Christine from Kerry, 19 Sep 2011
So I rented it. After the Hype everyone made around Avatar. Even I am not a fan of Blockbusters.... And? Well It is ok really but thats it then - for ME! Old Story, impressing pic quality, but me personally did not impress the figures and the lit up woods...nice ok but for me not understandabel why there is such a HYPE around it.
