A rainy day, but if the main co stars fan then get it, but if you dislike any one of them avoid at all costs.

You have got to see this movie. It was fantastic! Great story. Great scenery. Great acting. Didn't even notice the whopping great length of the movie. Excellent. Highly recommended.

35 out of 100  Not bad I suppose
Liam from Kilkenny, 19 Mar 2010
I liked it well enought but my partner Kate was a bit underwhelmed - I guess she expected more, while I didn't know what to expect. Beautifully filmed and well paced but the acting didn't quite absorb me into the story but as these things go, I'd recommend it wll enough.

30 out of 100  Surprised
Emmett from Dublin, 23 Feb 2010
Vibrant cinematography with perfectly suitable acting brings out the theatre nature to this movie that is expected from a Baz film. The main critisism I have of this movie is the structure of the story. There is without doubt two seperate movies going on here. Both fulfill the required flow for their genre but it is too much to ask the audience to see both of them back to back rather then tangetially. All in all I was midly surprised as it surpassed my low expectations. Not a movie though I

35 out of 100  What is it?
Henning from Dublin, 18 Jan 2010
Australia is part epic movie, part advert for the Northern Territory with a bit of love and western feel thrown in. Totally cliche acting and Nicole does seem to get over her husband quickly enough, but overall enjoyable and better than expected.

Mark from Dublin, 29 Dec 2009
Total rubbish and comes across part apology for how the aussies treated the aboriginies and an austrialian tourist movie gaping holes in the plot you could drop ayers rock in Baz Lurhmann should stick to musicals period robbed me of over two hours that I am never getting back, avoid at all costs.

I actually enjoyed this as I've been to Australia and love the place. But God Bless Baz Lurhman as he definately made a mess of the editing - to be honest he could have made 3 films from all the various story lines that he was trying to capture. Visually it was fabulous though

15 out of 100  Wasting our lives watching an oz tourism film!
GILLIAN from Dublin, 25 Oct 2009
I suffered through this and only made myself watch the whole film as I had bothered to use up one of orders from the screenclick gang! I think this was quite possibly the biggest waste of time ever. Scenery was nice but seemed far too computer animated. Acting was eh not the best! I think every possible Australian cliche phrase that makes even aussies cringe was present. Only good thing was the few nice shots of Hugh. Thats of course when he wasn't acting like the most obviously typical outback

30 out of 100  Not Gone with the Wind.
John from Donegal, 20 Oct 2009
An Englishwoman travels to Oz to find her husband and sell their land only to find him murdered and her property worthless unless she can sell her cattle to the Army. After all the bad reviews of this film, I wasn't expecting much, and although it did get to chocolate boxey in places, it was a good film overall. Jackman is gorgeous, and Kidman struggles with her accent. Overlong, but worth a look.

Mary from Cork, 15 Oct 2009
loved this movie, surprised myself cos I thought it wouldn't impress me, heard so much talk about it, I was renting itjust to see out of curiousity to see what everyones sees in this film. so I was hooked from the very beginning. great story, cute as a button kid, handsome "Drover" and Nicole, (well done).Due to my disability I usually cannot sit and concentrate for so long, but I watched the film from start to finish, and never moved at all.wish there were more movies like this.

10 out of 100  pants
colin from Dublin, 17 Sep 2009
I had heard great reviews from my sister and a friend so I was delighted when Australia landed in the postbox. To say it disapointed is an understatement along the lines of saying Hitler was naughty. It felt like a kids movie and was waaaaayyyyyy too long. I thought a serious issue like the stolen generation deserved a serious film, not this crap.

25 out of 100  Very disappointing
Maggie from Mayo, 14 Sep 2009
Very disappointing from Baz Luhrman. All of the characters were caricatures, the plot was predictable and the dialogue cliched. Having said that, I still managed to enjoy it. however, my husband couldn't watch more than 45 minutes.

25 out of 100  Entertaining
Leanie from Kildare, 01 Sep 2009
This movie is entertaining despite garish digital manipulation. Overacting and predictable in place and heavily leaned on the story line and moments of Out of Africa. A enjoyable movie non the less, especially Australian scenery and insight into Aborigine lifes . Too long

40 out of 100  Australia
Noeleen from Meath, 25 Aug 2009
Watched this movie with my husband & two sons 10 & 8 years old. We all really enjoyed this movie even though it was 3 hours long. It is an all round family movie. Thought Nicole Kidman did well in her role as she can be a bit type cast so it was nice seeing her in something a little bit different as for Hugh Jackman well what can i say only um um he was nice eye candy oh and he acted well.

JOE from Dublin, 11 Aug 2009
First time I`ve seen Nicole Kidman in a movie and wished someone would shoot her, very annoying in this ,the film itself is a bit of a pantomine, though its not the worst film about It doesn`t bother me that I fell asleep as this just tries too hard, swash buckle type film, with cows, and native australians who having a warning at the start not to be spooked by the voices of ghosts when the witch doctor appears ?......Yes we have no Bannanas !

Dean & Steffi from Meath, 06 Jul 2009
Me and the missus have an agreement: I rent her soppy chick-flicks in return for nights off gaming! So to sum up, she was looing forward to this but wondered after the first half hour where it was going, saying that Kidman was lacklustre & out of place. But she said it then turned on its head and became a good flick and got better. So there ya go now!

This is not the best film Bazz has made I can tell you. Not as bad as it is made out to be but certinely not good. Nicole's face is very distracting. What was she thinking I just couldnt get over the Botox! The shame is it could have been great but its not.

A really good film. The story takes place through the eyes of a mixed raced aboriginal boy (Nullah). It has action, romance and great scenery. The one theme is in many respects is that the adults all defy the odds for their own reasons-some their intentions are good , others evil. Its a long film but moves at a good pace so one isn't aware of the time passing.I'm slightly biased as I really do enjoy Australian films and thought this was as good as any.

15 out of 100  Only alright...
Cathy from Kildare, 18 May 2009
...despite the sometimes gratuitous 'Jackman with shirt off' moments that were my highlight!! It was too long, wanted to be too many types of film at once, the 'baddie' was WAY too panto, and the treatment of the issue of the 'stolen generations' was trite lip-service little more. The child actor playing Nahla was extremely good however, Nicole should layoff the Botox quickly she is already down to only two expressions!!

laura from Dublin, 11 May 2009
Beautiful scenery as you might expect, and Nicole Kidman is great fun as a prudish English lady finding herself in the outback. A quirky film which I really enjoyed - not what I expected from the trailers. I think it is more a chick flick (my boyfriend fell asleep in the middle).

35 out of 100  Bitty epic
Lyn from Cork, 03 May 2009
This seems to be two films in one and they don't really flow together. The second part is much better than the first. Nicole Kidman gives an uneven overstylized performance but the Aborigine actors are just great and it's worth watching just to hear and see their story. I nearly gave up in the first half hour but stick with it as it matures nicely.
