Appaloosa
Shane from Galway, 17 Feb 2009
If your looking for an all action type western then this is not for you. A more gritty & quite possibly more true to life western than your average effort and keeps you interested from start to finish. Good performances from Harris & Mortensen.

Well acted
laura from Dublin, 04 Mar 2009
Worth viewing if you are a fan of acting - it's simple and understated with brilliant performances from all the leads. Would put The 3 burials of Melquiades Estrada and The Proposition over this on style, but it's a good film.

The re birth of western genre. Solid casting with a simple story given a little twist in the romantic side of the story.

Life in the old west...
Mark from Cork, 03 Apr 2009
Westerns don't come along very often these days but we are lucky that Ed Harris decided to star in and direct Appaloosa. He assembles a fine cast including Renne Zelwegger as the not so innocent love interest and Jeremy Irons as the villanous rancher. Viggo Mortenson is on form as always. A well made and enjoyable film though not as action packed as one may think, given the genre.

Cowboys with a difference.
John from Donegal, 22 Apr 2009
Two ageing cowboys are hired to protect a small town against a local 'gang'.
This story has been done many times before, but this film isn't your usual shoot-em-up western. The characters are well drawn, each with their own faults and demons. The harshness of life back then is well shown. A good film, though a little slow.

Appaloosa

This is a good movie, but not a great movie. the plot is very straightforward but the actors do not disappoint. There is nothiing new or ground breaking on offer but it is a good watch and there is a nice line in humour. I couldn't help feel it could have been much more.

Very enjoyable, might have got a bit slow in the middle but still worth watching. 7 out of 10.
