25 out of 100  Good idea but...
Christine from Kerry, 05 May 2012
The idea is good and sensual but even I have lived in Greece and understand the Greeks just DONT have the sensuality like Italians or other cultures. MY opinion....so nice try but not really remaining in my memory.....

50 out of 100  The spices in life
Marion from Donegal, 18 Nov 2010
Loved the story! There is a fine thread going through the whole story, connecting different places, characters and different times. There is a world of imagination, real life moments which are sometimes sad, other times funny, there is this richness of flavours and taste - I could nearly taste and smell it myself by watching the story, getting into the passion for spices and their connection to real life ... Loved all the little details, and while watching a second time discovered more of them a

25 out of 100  Sweet film, not all that memorable
laura from Dublin, 01 Mar 2010
Some of the computer generated sequences, when the camera is panning around towns or rooms are very patchy, and look like they were put together by a student. However, the core idea of the film is sweet and the performances enjoyable.

Something farmiliar and truely beautiful about this movie. The characters are really well developed and the cultural refrences are so charming. Beautiful film!!

A lovely film, easy to watch but it doesn't quite deliver somehow. Mostly in greek with subtitles but I hardly noticed. Heartwarming, a little sad at times but a most enjoyable film all in all. Definately a chick flick though!

15 out of 100  Not all it's spiced up to be!
Mitzie from Mayo, 11 Feb 2008
I liked the first part with the young boy but when it got to the main course and desserts! it just dragged. A very slow movie, not as good as I thought it was going to be.

50 out of 100  A Touch Of Spice
Lyn from Cork, 07 Dec 2007
Heart-warming yet bitter-sweet story of a man's life growing up as an alien in Istanbul as a child of a mixed-race marriage. Beautifully filmed, wonderfully allegorical, an absolute joy to watch - never mind the subtitles!

50 out of 100  A Touch of Spice
Caitríona from Wicklow, 27 Sep 2007
While most of the film is in Greek with English subtitles! At least I think it was Greek. I really that this was a super film. A little bit of historical interest, a little romance with a very gentle and sad story line. It is also not in the usual "hollywood mould" - not Hollywood production. Would slightly query cert. in view of first opening shot? But taking the entire film in context, it made sense. Really, really enjoyed this film and would have no hesitation in recommending it

35 out of 100  Food for thought!
Chris from Cork, 20 Jul 2007
Life seen through the eyes of a Greek boy who spent his childhood in his savvy grandfather's spice shop in Turkey. Politics separates these two friends and the child is miserable but takes to cooking despite the opposition he encounters from all those round him. He pines for a girl he knew before he left the Bosphorus, returns to Turkey and finds her but she's married and unavailable. A pleasant movie in the league of Like water for Choclate, Babette's feast, Tortilla Soup, Mostly Martha ..

15 out of 100  A Touch of Spice
Richard from Dublin, 27 Jun 2007
Moves extremely slowly, but with some good moments. Very strange how, all the way through the movie, they speak in Greek. Then, at the end, for some unknown reason they all switch to english. Very longwinded and not enough of a story to keep you interested
