 A Bridge Too Far (1977)

The true story of the Bridge at Arnhem is one of the great heroic catastrophies of the war. In an over ambitious bid to end the war quickly by invading Germany, the Allies lost more men than the entire Normandy landings. This film features one of the greatest all-star casts ever and director Richard Attenborough brings to the screen, all the power and emotion of the war's bleakest debacle. Written by William Goldman this film is a searing depiction of courage against insurmountable odds, of bravery beyond endurance. The scale is immense, as the biggest parachute drop in history and the Nazi carnage in the streets of Holland becomes etched in your memory for ever.

A movie worth watching. It doesn't overwork the emotions, yet there are some sublime moments. If you've nothing better to do on a wet evening then watch this movie.
