When the small rag doll 9 ("The Lord of the Ring‘s" Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post–apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the landscape intent on doing them harm. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are ever to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. What follows is a sublime, heartwarming adventure where this most unlikely of heroes leads his troops into battle and, along the way, discovers that a band of miniature warriors may be the last hope for humanity.

20 out of 100 Disapointing as a feature..
Kieran from Limerick, 08 May 2010
Saw the original short and liked it a lot, so had high expectations for this one. The animation is spectacular, unfortunately the story does not match. Found I did not care for any of the characters and as such lost interest in this one.

45 out of 100 Suprisingly entertaining
joseph from Galway, 17 May 2010
Although the synopsis did not sound very promising, it turned out to be an excellent film. Good pace, excellent animation and a strong story kept my attention throughout. Altough rated 12 I suspect younger children would also enjoy the film as there are only a few 'scarey momemts' and the central characters, for all their flaws, grow on you as the plot unfolds. If you find the typical hollywood animations bland and lifeless, I would recommend you give this film a look.

40 out of 100 Not for kids
rory from Roscommon, 06 Apr 2010
I have to say that I really enjoyed this film. Original story with excellent detailed animation but definately not one for the kiddies. Close call even for the 12 ratings in my opinion

15 out of 100 Left me cold
Nenad from Dublin, 27 May 2010
Pretty to look at but beyond that thought it was quite boring. Kids would never last the course, me thinks. For me the story was very dated.

35 out of 100 Darkly entertaining

This film was originally a short and in some ways the plot remains as simplistic as that of a short. However it is strikingly beautiful and well worth a watch.
