51st State is the story of Elmo McElroy (Jackson), a streetwise American master chemist who heads to England to set up his last big deal - the introduction of a new designer drug to the European market and the rave scene in particular. McElroy soon becomes involved in a web of double dealing as he embarks on a wild ride through Liverpool's underworld and dance clubs - escorted by nutcase local gangster Felix (Carlyle), who hates all things American. Before long, though, he grabs the attention of Tomlinson, who plays an established local drug dealer and things start to get very nasty.

i thaught this was a very good film. there was a lot of funny and wild bits in the film. i enjoyed it very much as i think that the acting was very good in the film. and it showed which parts of the city were meant to be the worst. i think meatloaf had a good surprise roll in the fim. overall i give it 8 out of 10. keep up the great dvds on offer john culligan

40 out of 100 Brilliant over-the top drug caper
Una from Mayo, 16 Aug 2007
This is a real laugh out loud movie. Robert Carlyle and Samuel L. Jackson are both brilliant, as they fight off crooked cops, a sexy hit woman (who happens to be Carlyle's ex), brainless National Front drug dealers. The script is terrific and the acting superb. A really enjoyable caper.

35 out of 100 51st State of Mind
Brian from Cork, 28 Sep 2007
Good, not brilliant gangster drug movie but well worth a watch. American scientist developes wonder drug and tries to profit from it on the right side of the atlantic with the wrong side on his tail. Robert C is class and matches Samuel L Jacksons arogance. Cool

Michiel from Dublin, 22 Dec 2008
Very original story. Excellent acting by both protagonists. There is no downside to this movie. There's also one of the best quotes ever in movie history in here.
