 101 Reykjavik (2000)

30 degrees below zero, five hours of daylight: what else can you do but get wrecked? Living on social security in the protected environment of his mothers home, Hilmir has never felt the urge to venture beyond the confines of his neighbourhood, 101 Reykjavik, and is determined to resist adulthood at all cost. However he soon finds out that life is busy making plans for him when he discovers that the woman he has just been to bed with happens to be his mother's lesbian lover, and may be carrying his child... Acerbic black comedy about life in Reykjavik, featuring a score written by Damon Albarn of 'Blur' and 'Gorillaz' fame.

30 out of 100 Liked it - quirky
Linda from Dublin, 16 Jan 2008
I liked this film, a little quirky & oddly funny in parts. Nice insight into icelandic life during the winter, were it's dark most of the time - or at least thats what i like to think it was. It feels as tho' not a lot is going on as the pace is relaxed but in fact quite a few odd things happen but they are nicely downplayed - no big drams here. I'd recommend it, certainly worth a watch

A somewhat disturbing and bleak tale of a stoner youth and his complex dysfuntional family life .Very dark comedy .Good insight into a certain section of Icelandic social life, great characters ,really unusual film-highy recommended.

Great little movie featuring Victoria Abril, of Almodovar fame. Pretty twisted view on relationships set against the backdrop of never ending Icelandic winters. Not for the faint at heart or romcom-addicts. Highly recommended.

I wasn't sure about this one - but after watching it twice as I seem to fall asleep the 1st time I relised why - I've just never been to Iceland so I didn't really understand what was happening. Even thoguh it obvious I think its lacking something .....
